About the Department: The Department of Assamese is one of the original departments of SBMS College, since its inception on 1963. Assamese is a compulsory subject in the curriculum of Higher Secondary and Degree level. Initially the Department was run by 3 faculty members pursuing two years Pre-University course and two years General Degree course. To meet aspiration and demand of the students’ community the Honors course of Assamese subject was introduced in 1977. Since 1993, there have been 5 faculty members in the Department. During the long history of the College, the Department has produced a number of graduates who are now working in different prominent positions in government and private sectors.
