Sualkuchi Budram Madhab Satradhikar College (S.B.M.S. College), Sualkuchi, established on 1 August 1963, is a prominent institution of higher education located at Kanchan Nagar, Sualkuchi, Kamrup, Assam – 781103, on the north bank of the Brahmaputra. Situated in the culturally rich and historically renowned silk town of Sualkuchi, the College has been serving the educational needs of the region for more than six decades. Established through the collective efforts of the local community in a sylvan campus of 14 acres donated by Iswar Shri Shri Hatisatra, the premier seat of Vaisnabism in the Sualkuchi area, the college was named in memory of the revered Vaishnavite saints Late Budram Mahanta and Late Madhab Mahanta of Iswar Shri Shri Hatisatra.

The College is affiliated to Gauhati University and is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). In its third cycle of NAAC accreditation, the College was awarded B++ grade.

Over the years, S.B.M.S. College has continuously expanded and strengthened its academic profile. The College offers undergraduate programmes across the disciplines -Arts, Science and Commerce, along with the B.Voc. programme and Computer Science, reflecting its growing emphasis on contemporary, skill-oriented and technology-enabled education.

The College is now progressing with the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and has entered the fourth year of the NEP-based undergraduate framework, including the four-year Honours programme. The academic transition places greater emphasis on multidisciplinary learning, industry- academia linkage, skill development, research and innovation, experiential learning, internships, digital competencies and holistic student development. The College has also introduced the four-year B.Sc- B.Ed Course under Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) from the academic session 2026–27, marking another significant step in its academic evolution and commitment to contemporary teacher education.

With its strong foundation, evolving academic programmes and commitment to quality education, S.B.M.S. College continues to bridge its rich heritage with the emerging needs of higher education, preparing students with knowledge, skills, values and competencies for a changing world.

Mission 

  1. To provide accessible, inclusive and quality higher education to all sections of society, with special emphasis on SC, ST, OBC, minority communities, women, rural learners and socially and economically disadvantaged groups.
  2. To implement the vision of NEP 2020 through multidisciplinary, learner-centred, flexible, experiential and skill-based education that responds to emerging academic and societal needs.
  3. To enhance employability, entrepreneurship and self-reliance through vocational, value-added, certificate, internship and skill-development programmes, including B.Voc. and other emerging areas.
  4. To foster research, innovation, digital literacy, critical thinking and lifelong learning among students and faculty, while promoting academic excellence, faculty development and continuous quality improvement.
  5. To nurture responsible, ethical and culturally rooted citizens through constitutional values, national integration, scientific temper, environmental awareness, sports, cultural activities, community engagement, and appreciation of Assam’s indigenous heritage.
