Vocational Course: Six Months Diploma Programme in Computer for H.S Students

Remedial Courses: There is provision for remedial courses also for needy learners.

Subjects Offered in Degree Course: From the academic session 2011-2012, the Gauhati University has introduced semester system in the degree course. A three year degree course (TDC) shall be of six semesters covering three calendar years. Under the new semester scheme a degree student in the arts stream must have to offer English, M.I.L. or Alternative English as compulsory subjects a student can take one subject as major.

Three Years Degree Course (Arts): Combination of Subjects in TDC (Arts)
Under the newly introduced semester system, if a student offers a subsidiary subject as a major, he/she has to take one subsidiary subject from the following:
Major in Assamese – One subsidiary subject to be chosen from Philosophy / History / Economics
Major in English – One subsidiary subject to be chosen from Philosophy / History
Major in Economics – One subsidiary subject to be chosen from Education / Computer Science/ Political Science
Major in Education – One subsidiary subject to be chosen from Philosophy / Political Science
Major in History – One subsidiary subject to be chosen from Political Science / Elective Assamese (ASL)
Major in Philosophy – One subsidiary subject to be chosen from Education / Elective Assamese (ASL)
Major in Political Science – One subsidiary subject to be chosen from History / Economics

Three Years Degree Course (Arts): General Course A Candidate offering to study TDC general course (i.e. without major subject) has to select two subsidiary subjects. In the College, the following combination of subjects are available for students. No combination other than the following is allowed:

Three Years Degree Course (Science): In the TDC (Science), a student must offer English (Functional English) as compulsory subject. They have to select any these three subjects one subject may be taken as Major Subject.

Professional Course: The College has introduced a professional course from the session 2011-2012 namely Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) as full time course under Gauhati University.Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA):
Eligibility : Higher Secondary with Mathematics as one of the subjects as the Higher Secondary level is desirable. However students from H.S. Arts and Commerce streams who have not taken Mathematics in H.S., will have to take up a bridge course in addition to the normal courses in the 1st semester of BCA.
Duration : 3 Years (Six Semesters)
Intake : 20
Fees : Rs. 10,000/- per semester, Examination and Registration fees as per rules of Gauhati University. The students will get 20% discount on course fee. The course fee for the 1st semester is Rs. 8000/-
Examination: Examinations are conducted by the Gauhati University on the basis of semester system.
Further Opportunity For Study: Students can study MCA, MSc-IT, MSc (Computer Science), MBA from any university after completing BCA.
Campus Interview: There are facilities for campus recruitment of the 6th semester students of BCA.

UGC Sponsored Community College Scheme Under 12th Fifth Year Plan: SBMS College, Sualkuchi is going to introduce the UGC Sponsored Community College scheme from the year 2015-2016, for the benefit of entire locality by offering the following Course:
Intake Capacity: The maximum seat capacity under this scheme is Fifty (50). Admission will be done strictly in order of merit and reservation to SC, ST, OBC and PWD categories will be available as per UGC guidelines.

3 Years Degree on Bachelor of Vocational Programme: Vocational Education is an important element of the Nation’s education initiative. In order for vocational education to play its part effectively in the changing national context and for India to enjoy the fruits of the demographic dividend, there is an urgent need of imparting vocational education and training to make our students flexible, contemporary, relevant, inclusive and creative. The Government is well aware of the important role of vocational education and has already taken a number of important initiative in this area.
University Grants Commission has approve Three Year Bachelor Degree on Vocational Programme in S.B.M.S. College in the following specializations from the academic session 2015-2016:
Specialization/Trade
a) Animation and Graphics Design
b) Fashion Technology
Intake Capacity: Maximum seat capacity of each Specialization/Trade is 50. Admission will be done strictly in order of merit and reservation to SC/ST/OBC/Physically Handicapped categories will be done as per UGC Guidelines.
Qualification Required: Higher Secondary Passed students are eligible to take admission into each of the Trades.

Admission Procedure
1. To be eligible for admission into the first year of Higher Secondary Course and 1st Semester of Degree Course, a student has to pass H.S.L.C. Examination and H.S. Examination respectively.
2. Application for admission into the college should be made in the prescribed form issued by the college office along with the prospectus.
3. Admission into the college is made strictly in order of merit and is governed by the college rules. Admission committee’s decision regarding admission is final.
4. Students from Board or University other than S.E.B.A., A.H.S.E.C. and Gauhati University shall have to produce migration certificates at the time of admission.
5. In the Degree level, Student Counseling is compulsory. A student has to attend counseling session arranged by college authority before taking admission into 1st semester of TDC course.
6. Students passing the qualifying examination earlier than the current year will have to submit a gap certificate from a Govt. Gazetted Officer testifying to his/her activities during the interim period.
7. Candidates are required to produce at the time of admission the original copies of: i) Mark-sheet, ii) Pass Certificate, iii) Age Certificate , iv) Caste Certificate
8. Along with the Application Form candidate has to submit attested photostat copies of above mentioned certificates and marksheets. Otherwise their forms will not be considered for admission.
9. A candidate must submit ‘Guardian Declaration Form’ with guardian’s signature at the time of submission of application form. This form will be supplied along with the application form.
