I am honoured to extend a warm welcome to all, as you join this distinguished hub of higher education, SBMS College, nestled in the rural heartland of Sualkuchi, Assam. I am deeply grateful to the parents and guardians for placing their trust in us, choosing our college as the stepping stone for shaping the bright futures of their children. It gives me immense pleasure to share some exciting updates about the ongoing improvements to our infrastructure and academic offerings. In addition to our established undergraduate programmes in Arts, Science, Bachelor of Vocation,Computer Science and Community College, we are proud to introduce B.Com programmes along with various skill based courses. These innovative programmes present unique opportunities to the youth of the region exclusively in SBMS College, a premier institution committed to delivering holistic education that fosters academic growth, critical thinking and personal growth. I hope many more students will take advantage of the new offerings to broaden their skills and career prospects.
Our dedication to nurturing the next generation goes far beyond academics. We continue to enhance the overall development of our students with programmes focused on personality growth, soft skills, communication and value-basededucation. Seminars on contemporary issues, sports and cultural events, non-scholastic activities and departmental excursions add to our vibrant campus life. Our college newsletter and two peer-reviewed research journals, recognized with ISSN, serve as platform for intellectual exchange and research environment. Inaddition, our college actively engages in social responsibility through NSS Unit, social services and community outreach extension activities in the adopted village ‘Rawanboi’ and the dynamic activities of the NCC Unit. We encourage our respected alumni and parents to share their feedback and suggestions regularly to help us sustain and improve the standards of this rural institution of higher education.
It goes without saying that our efforts to advance this institution are not motivated by mere prestige, but by our genuine commitment to building a brighter future for our students. There is no denying the fact that facing the National Educational Policy (NEP) 2020 presents various institutional challenges for college like us in regard to restructuring and adopting existing curricula to align with skill-based vocational and value- based courses. Similarly, a robust digital infrastructure, such as high-speed internet, teaching-learning tools and adequate e-learning platforms are not on parin institutions of rural areaslike us for both online and blended learning. Upgrading these resources is essential, but it demands significant sustained support, financial investments and strategic planning, which we are trying our best to achieve!
As we embark on this journey, we are aware that it will be a gradual process, requiring the involvement and commitment of every member of our institution. Together, we will strive to overcome these challenges by fostering a spirit of resilience, collaboration and innovation. I am confident that with determination and a shared vision, we can transform these challenges into opportunities that will pave the way for a brighter tomorrow for our students and community.
