The Integrated Teacher Education programme (ITEP) introduced by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) is a four-year undergraduate programme designed to prepare prospective teachers by integrating both academic coursework and practical teaching experiences. This programme is developed under the framework of NEP 2020.
Objectives of ITEP courses:
• To equip aspiring teachers with essential professional skills, strong pedagogical knowledge, and positive teaching attitudes.
• To prepare teachers for the Foundational, Preparatory, Middle, and Secondary stages of schools
• To ensure that teachers are grounded in Indian values, languages, and traditions
• To prepare teachers to use modern teaching technologies in the classroom transaction
• To enhance quality of teacher education and to contribute significantly to the overall improvement of educational standards in schools.
S.B.M.S. College, Sualkuchi is going to introduce the four-year Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP) from the academic session 2026–27. Students who opt for teaching as their career can enrol in this programme after completing higher secondary education. The advantage of ITEP is that it allows students to complete a dual degree such as B.A. B.Ed. or B.Sc. B.Ed. within four years instead of five, making them professionally qualified for the teaching profession in a shorter duration.
